Stop Vivisection conference at the European Parliament - 26th of June 2013

The European Citizens' Initiative STOP VIVISECTION will be presented on Wednesday 26th of June at the European Parliament, in Bruxelles (16:00-18:30, Room A5E2). Speakers at the conference will include scientists explaining the reasons why we have to phase out animal experiments.
Jeremy Rifkin will make a special contribution. Numerous NGOs from all over Europe supporting STOP VIVISECTION will participate in the debate.

To date, 400.000 signatures have been collected online for this Citizens' Initiative. More than 10.000 activists are also gathering signatures on paper and the initiative is supported by more than 60 NGOs representing 21 Member States.

1 million signatures will have to be collected by the 1st of November 2013.

The conference will be hosted by a group of six MEPs supporting STOP VIVISECTION: Sonia Alfano (ALDE), Jo Leinen (S&D, former President of ENVI Committee), Dan Jorgensen (S&D, Chair of the EP Intergroup for Animal Welfare), Cristiana Muscardini (ECR), Michèle Striffler (EPP) and Michèle Rivasi (Greens).
The scope of the STOP VIVISECTION European Citizens Initiative  is to impose European legislative measures aimed at phasing out animal experimentation and at preserving human health.

The conference follows the STOP VIVISECTION European day on the 15th of June, in which events to collect signatures have been organised in more than 350 European towns.
